Singers

PARIS — Please join the First Congregational Church of Paris in celebrating Christmas as part of an interdenominational choir for the cantata entitled “Jesus: The Advent of the Messiah.” Singers from Oxford Hills area churches are invited to join us. Practices are on Wednesdays at 5 p.m. at First Congo in Paris beginning Oct. 9. If interested, please join us (even if you’ve missed the first practice). The cantata will be performed on Sunday, Dec. 15 at 2 p.m. at First Congo. All are invited to join us to celebrate the birth of the Savior.

Historical Society

OTISFIELD — On Oct. 12, the Otisfield Historical Society will sponsor a guided tour of our South Otisfield Cemetery, located on Powhatan Road, close to the Casco line. Members of the Historical Society will discuss the history of this part of town, four of its original families, and our local artist, Jean Randall. Tours will begin at 2 p.m., with a second tour beginning at 3 p.m. Tickets will be limited, and the cost of $10 per person (children free) will be collected at the gate. Lunch

OTISFIELD — Pork loin, mashed potatoes, peas and carrots, salads, and apple crisp is on the menu for Otisfield’s Community Lunch Wednesday, Oct. 16. It will be served at the Community Hall, at 292 State Route 121, from 11:30 to 12:30. The meal is free; donations are appreciated to keep it self-supporting. Invite a neighbor and come enjoy good food and good company.  Be sure to thank the many volunteers and cooks who make this event happen!

Heritage Society

WEST PARIS — The Finnish-American Heritage Society of Maine will hold its monthly meeting from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 20, at the FinnAm building at 8 Maple St. in West Paris. Following a brief business meeting, Dale Piirainen will present a program on genealogical research utilizing Finnish sources. It’s not as frightening as you might think! Sale

NORWAY — St. Catherine of Sienna Church is excited to announce their fall rummage sale on Saturday, October 26 from 9 to 11:30 a.m. This special event will feature a variety of gently used items, including clothing, household goods, books, and toys, all available for purchase by donation.

Proceeds will support the annual free community Thanksgiving dinner, ensuring that everyone has a warm meal and fellowship during the holiday season.

Book Sale

PARIS — The Paris Public Library is holding a used book sale on Saturday, October 19, from 8 a.m. to noon, downstairs at the Deering Memorial Community Center. The center is located at 39 Main Street in Paris, across Church Street from the Library.

The sale will feature thousands of titles, in good to excellent condition, which have never been offered at a previous Paris Library sale. Puzzles and games will also be available. Shoppers are asked to make a contribution of their choice for the items they select. Proceeds from the sale will help purchase children’s books for the library’s collection.
