Robert B. Chabot
SACO – Robert B. Chabot, 78, of Saco, passed away at home on Oct. 9, 2024, surrounded by his family.
He was born in Lewiston, on June 9, 1946, a son of Bertrand and Yvette (Levasseur) Chabot. The youngest of five children, Bob grew up in Auburn and enjoyed spending summers with his family on Cochnewagon Pond. Days were spent with his siblings swimming, boating, playing water sports, and fishing. Given his father’s philosophy that “you eat what you catch,” Bob left the fishing to his brothers and focused on driving the boat. During these summers, Bob also worked as a caddy at the local golf course and developed his lifelong love of golf.
Bob graduated from Edward Little High School, class of 1964, excelling in football, hockey, and golf. He went on to play hockey for Boston University for one year. Bob graduated from Husson College with a bachelor’s degree in business.
Bob married his wife Judy on Feb. 2, 1973, adopting her daughters, Jen and Heather. Bob and Judy were high school sweethearts and reunited nine years later and married, welcoming their son BG in 1974. The family settled in Pittsfield, and enjoyed spending their summers by the pool and winters at the Pinnacle Ski Club, skating and skiing. Bob was an active member of the JW Parks Golf Course and Knights of Columbus. In 1985, the family relocated to Saco, and Bob immediately joined the Biddeford-Saco Country Club, where he eventually took on a leadership role, serving on the board of directors. He enjoyed weekly golf with his brother, Roger, and brother-in-law, Paul, and playing in tournaments with his son, BG, and grandson, Caden. A sports enthusiast, Bob coached Little League, basketball, and hockey and started the hockey program at Thornton Academy with other parents. He could also be found taking photos and cheering in the stands for his children and grandchildren.
Bob spent his entire career working in the accounting field in various industries. He worked for Ethan Allen in Burnham, Medical Center in Portland, the Public Works Department for the City of Lewiston, and retired from BBI in Old Orchard Beach.
Golf was Bob’s passion, and he and Judy enjoyed attending professional golf tournaments and visiting courses across the country during numerous vacations. In his retirement, Bob also enjoyed spending time on Sebago Lake taking his grandchildren on boat rides and tubing, as well as dining out with family and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents and two brothers, Normand Chabot and Paul Chabot.
He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Judy Chabot, three children, Jen Chabot, Heather Lee, and BG Chabot and wife Shawna, and five grandchildren, Allie, Caden, Mairead, Avery, and Emme. He is also survived by his brother, Roger Chabot and wife Glennis, his sister, Louise Dunn, his sister-in-law, Mary Chabot, and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. To view Bob’s memorial page or leave an online condolence, please visit http://www.cotefuneralhome.com.
