Frank T. Flewelling, a blacksmith, was surprised Friday evening when the Dexter man was informed that he had won first prize of $25 in the Maine Seed Potato Slogan contest.
He denied all knowledge of entering the contest, but his wife, Mrs. Effie Flewelling, came to the rescue and admitted sending in the slogan, “Best Seed-Maine’s Creed,” in her husband’s name and without his knowledge.
The contest was conducted under the auspices of the Maine Federation of Farm Bureaus.
