100 Years Ago: 1924

Frank T. Flewelling, a blacksmith, was surprised Friday evening when the Dexter man was informed that he had won first prize of $25 in the Maine Seed Potato Slogan contest.

He denied all knowledge of entering the contest, but his wife, Mrs. Effie Flewelling, came to the rescue and admitted sending in the slogan, “Best Seed-Maine’s Creed,” in her husband’s name and without his knowledge.

The contest was conducted under the auspices of the Maine Federation of Farm Bureaus.

50 Years Ago: 1974

The Edward Little High School Keyettes will be featured at a style show of King’s Department Store at the ELHS gymnasium Wednesday, Oct. 30, beginning at 7:30.

The store will furnish the clothing and refreshments, the event being one of several scheduled on the occasion of King’s 25th birthday observance.

25 Years Ago: 1999

The Promenade in Lewiston will soon be the home of a new restaurant and a new video store.

The two businesses are in addition to construction of a 10-screen cinema under way and expansions at two businesses at the shopping center.

Shakers Restaurant and Lounge will be located in the former Dave’s Video building. The other new business, Video Galaxy, is expected to open in November next to Family Dollar.
