FARMINGTON — With music playing throughout the event, some runners in costume, some teams with parents and/or coaches participating, the Mt. Blue Relays provided a fun atmosphere in the week preceding the KVAC League Championship.
But there was also a competitive aspect. The Camden Hills boys and Bangor girls took first place among the 18 schools participating in the race.
The Mt. Blue girls took second place, led by Nora McCourt, who had the fastest individual time of the day [13:20], edging Dylan Burmeister of third place Lincoln Academy by four seconds.
The remainder of Mt. Blue’s second place team were Elizabeth Strickland, Astrid Jones, Karoline Gonzales, and Lucy Knowles. Brielle Tinker also ran an excellent race for a combined Mt. Blue/Belfast team.
On the boys side, Bangor edged Mt. Blue for second place in a very competitive race. Henri McCourt led the way for the Cougars as his time of 11:01 was the third fastest of the day. Lewiston’s Enzo Giampaolo had the top time [10:43] with Edward Little’s Calvin Vincent two seconds behind him.
The rest of the third place Mt. Blue boys team was Luke Doscinski, Ben Hatch, Eli Hoeft, and Eli Young. Mt. Blue also had the fastest “B” team as the squad of Noah Civiello, Damian Wynn, Nick DeMarco, Wyatt Oliver, and Luka Burns placed 10th overall. The Cougar boys also had a “C” and “D” team. Nick Bell and Joe Brown were the top runners on each of those teams.
