
Peter M. Leavitt
AUBURN – Peter M. Leavitt, 76, of Bear Pond in Turner, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2024, at Andwell Hospice House in Auburn, with his family by his side.
He was born on Jan. 22, 1948, in Lewiston, the son of Merton and Ruth (Goss) Leavitt. Peter was a 1966 graduate of Leavitt Institute in Turner and continued his education at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland. Following school, he proudly served in the U.S. Navy during Vietnam.
Pete was a longtime member of Millwrights Local 1121, Boston. Peter worked in construction as a millwright throughout the east coast, in 1984 at an oil refinery in New Jersey. He worked outages at Maine Yankee in Wiscasset, and helped build paper machines at the Sappi Mill in Hinckley. He also worked on nuclear power plant outages in North Carolina and Virginia for around 10 years.
On June 10, 1989, in North Turner, he married Eva Dudley. They enjoyed 34 years of marriage before her passing on Dec. 23, 2023.
Peter was a member of the Natural History Club and former member of the Bear Pond Improvement Association. He enjoyed gourmet cooking and going out to eat in gourmet restaurants, as well as meeting his friends on Tuesdays at Gritty’s.
He is survived by his brothers Mark Leavitt and wife Susan, John Leavitt and wife, Paula, sister, Mary Leavitt and David Rogers, all of Turner; three nephews and two nieces; stepson, Roland “Ed” Morris, Jr. and wife Tracy of Turner; grandchildren, Elizabeth Young, Kyle Morris, Audrey Webber and Shelby Varney; five great-grandchildren; in-laws John Dudley and wife Margot of Hartford, Lawrence Giroux and wife Cynthia of Hartford, Edward Giroux and wife Deborah of Greene, Lorenzo Giroux and wife Patricia of Bridgton, and Troy Giroux and wife Rhonda of North Jay, Rosalie Caron and husband Richard of Leeds and Carmen Kiesman of North Turner; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; stepdaughter, Dulsie Varney and son-in-law, Troy Varney; in-laws Robert Dudley and his wife, Dorothy, Paul Giroux and Tracey Giroux.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 27, at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Interment Upper Street Cemetery, Turner.
