BETHEL — At this week’s meeting, we recognized two Rotarians with Rotary’s highest honor. Marilyn DiFillipo and Jean Benedict were honored for their extraordinary service to our club. Marilyn was largely responsible for orchestrating the club’s 50th Anniversary celebration this past June and Jean served two years as our club President- an “above and beyond” commitment. Congrats to Marilyn and Jean.

Our program was terrific as well. Chris Barstow, from the Region 9 School of Applied Technology provided an incredible overview of the 13 specific programs that are offered to the students of Telstar, Mountain Valley, and Dirigo High Schools. The programs serve to prepare young people for careers and, in many cases, provide the needed certification to ensure a quick path to a job upon completion of them. What a wonderful opportunity for the young adults of our area.

We believe it's important to offer commenting on certain stories as a benefit to our readers. At its best, our comments sections can be a productive platform for readers to engage with our journalism, offer thoughts on coverage and issues, and drive conversation in a respectful, solutions-based way. It's a form of open discourse that can be useful to our community, public officials, journalists and others.
We do not enable comments on everything — exceptions include most crime stories, and coverage involving personal tragedy or sensitive issues that invite personal attacks instead of thoughtful discussion.
