DEAR SUNSPOTS: The Poland Historical Society at 1231 Maine St. in Poland will hosting Hugh Keene and his memories of growing up in West Poland on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 10 a.m.
A longtime educator in the Auburn school system, Keene once attended the Poland Corner School House, which is now the home of the historical society. He will recall a time when homes were not electrified, when schools consisted of one room with multiple grades, and when a settlement existed on Blackcat Mountain. This event is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. For more information, call Jack at 998-5268. — David, Auburn
ANSWER: That sounds very interesting. I’m wondering if Hugh has ever given talks at area schools. I think it would be valuable to share his stories with youngsters.
