OTISFIELD — A concert and cornhole tournament to raise awareness of and support victims of human sex trafficking, sexual assault and sexual violence will be held Sunday, June 16, at the Field of Faith at Lodge Hill, 437 Bean Road.

Venue Co-owner Ken Hawley said, “Our purpose for this event and the Field of Faith is to bring our community together to encourage, enjoy, unite and make a positive difference in the world we share.”

The venue will open at 3:30 p.m. and the family friendly cornhole competition will feature 12 teams of two to six people each. Registration can be done by email at [email protected] or at the event. The fee is $25 per team.

Hawley said 100% of the money raised and/or donated will be split evenly between Safe Voices in Lewiston and Just Love Worldwide in Westbrook.

Safe Voices, headquartered in Lewiston, provides shelter and support services for survivors of domestic violence and sex trafficking and exploitation in Androscoggin, Franklin and Oxford counties. Services include one-on-one safety planning, support groups, information and referral, court advocacy, transportation and accommodation for shelter, community education, and professional trainings, according to its website safevoices.org.

Just Love Worldwide in Westbrook is a survivor-led nonprofit organization that works to end exploitation and sex trafficking by extending a helping hand to survivors, educating communities and advocating for stronger legal protection, according to its website, justloveworldwide.org.

Executive Director Tricia Grant is a survivor of domestic minor sex trafficking who educates and mentors youth and adults in large group and one-on-one settings about the reality of human trafficking and exploitation, the website says. As a survivor-leader, she consults with safe houses all over the country. She works with first-time sex buyers facilitating groups of offenders as a diversionary program in Maine. She shares her story with the hope that it will help others understand that trafficking can happen to anyone anywhere and to prevent victims from waiting 16 years to talk about it, as she did.

Grant will attend the fundraiser, share her story and provide information and materials for attendees.

Following the tournament, an evening of worship, stories and songs will kick off at 6 p.m. Lawn chairs are welcome. The concert will feature the duo of Dave Pettigrew and Ross King.

Pettigrew is a worship leader, recording artist, author, husband and father from New Jersey. He and his band have opened for and toured with Christian music artists, including Mercy Me, For King & Country, Jeremy Camp, Big Daddy Weave, Sidewalk Prophets, Michael W. Smith, Phil Wickham, Rend Collective, Brandon Heath and Tenth Avenue North, according to his website, davepettigrew.net.

King has been a full-time professional songwriter, worship leader, concert performer, and producer since 1995, according to his website, rosskingmusic.com. His songs have been recorded over 150 times, primarily in the contemporary Christian music genre, including by Newsboys, We Are Messenger and Micah Taylor. He lives in the Nashville area with his wife and their four children.
