Carolyn D. Matott

CANTON – Carolyn D. Matott, 81, passed away on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2024, at Pinnacle Health Center in Canton where she had been a patient for several months. She born Sept. 9, 1943, in Rumford, Maine, the daughter of Thomas and Respa (Anderson) Dougherty.

She was a graduate of Canton High School and Bliss Business College in Lewiston. She started her career in Accounting for several shoe shops in Auburn and Lewiston. Soon thereafter, she formed her own business offering accounting, bookkeeping and tax preparation to individuals and small businesses for over 50 years. She would retire from Matott Accounting Services and continue the business of sand and gravel until full retirement. She served the Town of Canton as a select woman for a period of time. She was a sport enthusiast NASCAR was her favorite following driver Rusty Wallace until his retirement.

She married Stillman Matott on April 23, 1995. They traveled to many NASCAR races over the years and enjoyed going to different places with their camper especially Fryeburg Fair and the coast of Maine.

She was predeceased by her parents and husband. She is survived by her son Robert Dougherty of Canton, daughter Alison Morin of Auburn; her brother Gary Dougherty of Canton; and several cousins.

Our family wishes to extend our deepest appreciation to those who cared with helping hands and loving hearts.

Interment will be held at a later date at Pinegrove Cemetery, Route 108, Canton, ME 04221.
