CHESTERVILLE – Robert “Bob” Leso, 82, passed away on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, due to a sudden vehicle accident. Bob lived a beautiful and fulfilling life, deeply enriched by the love and activities of his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 52 years, Marian “Mimi” Leso, his cherished sons John and Andrew Leso, Andrew’s wife Morgan, and his adored grandsons Nolan and Jack Leso.
Bob found immense joy in participating in his family’s activities, from cello playing and art to basketball and baseball, creating countless memories filled with laughter and love. His passion for forestry and trees was a significant part of his life. He managed his white pine Tree Farm, grew and sold Christmas trees, and oversaw a deer yard apple release program behind his house. Trees, along with his sons and grandsons, were the heart of his life.
Professionally, Bob dedicated 40 years as a Maine State Forester and continued to serve as the Tree Farm coordinator for Franklin County. His commitment to his community was evident through his 42 years on the Chesterville Planning Board, his service on the Soil and Water Conservation Board of Supervisors, and his membership in the Small Woodlot Owners Association.
Bob graduated from the University of Maine at Orono with a degree in forestry. He spent three years in the Peace Corps in Peru as a Spanish interpreter and served in the Armed Services in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star.
He is survived by his wife, Mimi Leso; his two sons, Andrew Leso and his wife Morgan, along with their children, Nolan and Jack; John Leso and his partner Alyssa Renzi; and his sister, Diane Spiller. Bob was preceded in death by his mother, Zydana Spiller; his father, Andrew Leso; his stepfather, Eldred Spiller; and his sister, Carol Jean Spiller.
Bob’s legacy of love, dedication, and passion for forestry will be remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
Public visitation will be held on Monday, November 18 from 4-6 p.m., at Wiles Remembrance Center, 137 Farmington Falls Road, Farmington, Maine. A funeral mass will be held Tuesday, November 19 at 11 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Church, 133 Middle Street, Farmington, followed by a reception.
