The city of Lewiston is working toward establishing a building rehabilitation program to aid the unemployed with the use of Comprehensive Employment Training Act (CETA) funds.
According to Leslie Stevens, the intergovernmental coordinator, should funds be appropriated from the state’s $2,771,077 share the Public Works Department will hire persons for a period of six months to work on city buildings which have fallen in disrepair due to the overextended workload of the city’s maintenance staff.

On Monday, Auburn police will meet with news reporters to provide updated information about the 1998 disappearance of a Frog Rock Cafe manager. The meeting is expected to be brief; there has been no sign of Darrell Shepardson in nearly a year, and the case has turned cold.
The 36-year-old Dover-Foxcroft man was carrying $6,000 in Frog Rock funds and driving his boss’s truck on Nov. 29, the day he vanished. The GMC Yukon was found five days later at Logan Airport in Boston.
The Washington Street eatery has since closed. Another Frog Rock Cafe in Greenville burned down at the start of the year. Fire investigators called it arson. It’s all very interesting to police detectives, but there have been no more clues to the whereabouts of Shepardson.
“We’re as mystified as we were a year ago,” said Leigh Turner, the owner of the Frog Rock. “We’re as curious as anyone.”
