Gerald Douglas Kilgore Jr.
SOUTH PARIS – Gerald Douglas Kilgore, Jr., 81, passed away peacefully in his home on Nov. 11, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born to Muriel and Gerald Kilgore, Sr. on Dec. 18, 1942, in Norway.
Gerald was an extremely hardworking man and an excellent provider for not only his family whom he loved more than life itself, but also to whoever needed a little extra help. Gerald never looked away from anyone who fell on hard times, often popping up unexpectedly with food, furniture, some of his homemade liniment or a check in hand with no expectations of receiving anything in return. His generosity reached hundreds if not thousands throughout his long, beautiful life.
Gerald was married to Geraldine Nava (Lauzon) in 1962 and shortly after had two beautiful daughters, Norma Jean Nadeau born in 1963 and Robin Lynn Morey born in 1967.
He is survived by his daughters and their husbands Jeffrey Nadeau and Leslie Morey; four grandchildren, Lori Peters, Whitny Walker, Tia Pratt, and his protogee and only grandson Troy Morey; five great grandchildren, Isaah Carman, Brody Walker, Brennan Walker, Bryson Walker, and the precious baby of the family Beckett Morey; six siblings, Dennis Kilgore (Jeanie), Peter Kilgore (Sharon), Ronnie Kilgore, Sherry Hachey (Mike), Penny Allen (Charlie), and Barry Kilgore (Tammy); and the love of his life Angel, his 3-year old Doberman.
He was predeceased by his parents; and brothers Eddie Kilgore and Albert Kilgore.
Gerald wore many hats along with being a father, grandfather and brother. He was a 32nd Mason, a Shriner and a Lion’s Club member. He proudly served the Town of Paris as Selectman from 1994-2016. Gerald was a true horseman at heart. He owned, trained and drove many winners. His pride and joy was Joes the Best, the “son he never had.” The gray horse won the Maine Sires Stakes championship in 2007. He also ran a successful construction company, Kilgore’s Construction, that was not limited to just construction as he was the epitome of the phrase “Jack of All Trades.”
Gerald liked to stay well informed about his community even though he wasn’t active in the community as much as he would have liked in his later years. He also enjoyed informing friends and family of the inside scoop, no matter how many times he had to repeat the same story. Gerald made such an impact on everyone he met and his family would like you to join us in a celebration of life.
Family and friends may attend visitation on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Homes & Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2024 at 2 p.m. at the Moss Brook Church.
