LEWISTON – Roland Fontaine, 85, of Lewiston, passed on in the early morning of Nov. 9, 2024, surrounded by his family. Born in Lewiston on Sept. 24, 1939, Roland was a lifelong resident.

Roland forged lasting friendships during his time at LePage Dairy, Knapp Shoe, and Philips Elmet, and was a race-winning member of the New England stock car circuit, where he was known as The Flying Frenchman.

He also proudly served in the U.S. Army.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Rita, his son James and husband Phil Manno, Judi Gagnon and son Ethan, and his wife Briana, Jayna Wilson and husband Donnie, along with their children, Delaney, Jocelyn, and Jacob, and his younger sister, Rita Gagnon.

Roland was preceded in death by his parents, Henri Fontaine and Imelda Cailler, and 10 of his 11 siblings.

Roland will be sorely missed by much-loved family and friends. Kindly raise a coffee cup filled with beer in remembrance. He would love that.

At Roland’s request, there will be a private commitment ceremony at Saint Peter’s for the immediate family.

The Fontaine family offers its sincere gratitude to the Andwell Home Hospice team, Andwell Hospice House, and Dr. Brodsky for their loving care and commitment and to Funeral Alternatives for their dedicated assistance.
