BUCKFIELD – John “Jack” Richard, 82, died on Nov. 15, 2024, at Anwell Hospice House after a short illness. Jack was born Dec. 28, 1941, in Rahway, New Jersey to John and Elizabeth Richard. He graduated from Elizabethtown College with a degree in history. He earned a Master’s Degree in library science at Louisiana State University. Jack worked at libraries in Arizona and Maine. Portland was his home for many years where he sold real estate. Later he moved to California to work in a library at one of California’s state prisons.
Jack retired and returned to Maine in 2013. He lived in Buckfield, where he enjoyed doing genealogical research, painting, afternoon coffee at Burger King, and going to the South Paris library and book club. He is predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul. Jack is survived by his sister Elizabeth and her husband George Dunn of Hartford, nephews Jon Dunn of New York City and Chris Dunn of Old Orchard Beach along with Chris’s wife Sarah and their son Walden. Jack enjoyed his time with his great-nephew very much and hoped that Walden would someday share his interest in family genealogy. Jack will be buried in the family plot at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lewiston. At Jack’s request there will be no funeral or visiting hours.
