Marilyn D. (Goding) Dubord
BOOTHBAY – Marilyn D. Dubord (Goding) passed away on Nov. 1, 2024, at the age of 87. In her last few years, dementia slowly took away her memories, but her family and friends remember her well.
She was a lover of beautiful and fine things. She took immense pride in decorating her first home on Jay Hill. Her favorite flower was a daisy. She appreciated music and going to concerts; she loved art, took lessons, and painted with family and friends. A fun day was a long drive in the country or a day trip to the coast. She enjoyed spontaneous trips to the city to shop and dine.
She went to beauty school, opened her own salon, and never once left the house before styling her hair, makeup, and clothes. Her home was filled with a warm ambience, especially during the holidays. Even dinner was beautiful, with the table set, glasses filled, and plated food on her best china.
She was able to live a life filled with beauty by being resourceful, smart, and thrifty throughout her life. The hearty dinners came from harvesting fruit and vegetables from the family’s garden and orchards, then canning, freezing, and storing in the root cellar. She was generous with her children too, hosting birthday parties with their friends and surprising them with piles of presents under the Christmas tree.
She loved to laugh, and didn’t mind laughing at herself as well. As much as she cared for the things around her, she cared too for others. Her friends were very important to her and she maintained those friendships throughout her life.
She raised five children over a span of 37 years, taking in three of her siblings when their mom passed away. When her youngest child left for college, she opened a small daycare at her home. She later became a companion for an elderly woman and then others in need, and kept up visits with old friends until she no longer could.
A caregiver to the end, it is with great peace her family knows she was well-cared for through the final stages of her terrible disease. A heartfelt thanks is extended from her family to the Riverside staff at Chase Point in Damariscotta, the nurses and chaplain from Beacon Hospice, and Strong-Hancock Funeral Home for the arrangements.
She is survived by her children, Karen Thomas-Kissam and husband Bill of Anthem, Ariz., Tim Thomas and wife Heidi of Portland, Michelle Dubord of Greenwood, Danielle Betts and husband Brad of Boothbay, and Kristen Dubord and husband Matt Friedman of Norridgewock; as well as eight grandsons; two granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings, Gail Kennedy of Livermore, David Goding of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Leonard Goding and wife Naomi of Sarasota, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband, Allen Thomas; her second husband, Lionel D. Dubord; her parents, Glen and Ida (Tibbetts) Goding; brothers, Roy, Glen, and Bruce Goding; and sisters, Fern Gordon, Judy Gordon, and Joyce Knox.
At Marilyn’s request, there will be no funeral service or ceremony. Arrangements are under the direction and care of the Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main Street, Damariscotta, ME 04543. Condolences, and messages for her family, may be expressed by visiting: http://www.StrongHancock.com.
