BUCKFIELD – Philip Whitmore, 89, of Buckfield, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 7, 2024 at the Andwell Hospice House surrounded by loving family.

He was born in Fort Fairfield on Feb. 28, 1935, a son to Preston and Cecile Whitmore.

He was married to Irene Rossignol on Feb. 7, 1959 and the pair were happily married for nearly 66 years and had seven children together. His family grew with 21 grandchildren and 43 great-grandchildren.

Philip was a dedicated, hardworking man and was very proud of being self-employed. He loved to dance and hunt, but most importantly he loved his family and the life that he created for himself.

His community adored him and watched over him. He touched many lives and was loved by everyone that knew him. He will be missed dearly and his impact on this world will never be forgotten.

Philip is the last of his Whitmore family, being predeceased by his parents; his five siblings; and his beloved son, Philip.

He leaves behind his wife Irene; his six children; his 21 grandchildren; and 43 great-grandchildren.

A visitation for Philip will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., with an in-house memorial service at 12 p.m. A burial and military honors will take place at Damon Cemetery in Buckfield in the spring.
