Shane William Conant

LISBON FALLS – Shane William Conant, 67, of Lisbon Falls, entered peacefully into his eternal home on Dec. 11, 2024 at Maine Medical Center. He was born in Waltham, Mass. on Sept. 27, 1957 to Merton and Dorothy Conant.

If anyone lived truly in the moment, it was Shane. His eye for beauty and joy in living led him into adventures beyond the mundane. A helper and a friend to all; he kept no record of wrongs.

At a young age Shane began sharing his faith overseas as a military brat. In his hometown in Turner he entered Leavitt High School as a junior, and graduated in the class of ‘75. He became well known for having a bible in his back pocket at all times. In the summer of 1980 he married Joy Newton and together they raised six children. The strength and health of him and his family both spiritually and physically were of utmost importance.

The sun rising was often accompanied by bible study, healthy food and a morning barefoot run. He led his life ready to be with his Heavenly Father, but physically prepared to be with us for much longer. Sadly, he suffered from a sudden brain hemorrhage.

Shane was an exceptionally talented artist, he became part of a group of painters dedicated to the pursuit of studying traditional painting methods as it was taught at the turn of the previous century in Boston. Under the tutelage of his friend and mentor, Thomas Dunlay, whose own lineage includes R.H. Ives Gammell, William Paxton, Jean Leon Gerome and many other notable 19th century European painters. His love of the Maine landscape was foremost in his work as well as his keen interest in portrait and figure work.

He was a unique man, highly opinionated and fiercely loyal to his family; his interests and talents were as varied as the topics he loved to debate. A talented finish carpenter who excelled at taking the simple and making it beautiful.

He is survived by his father, Merton and his wife Sally; his brother, Michael, (Debbie) Conant; their children Ryan, Johnny, Megan Conant; and former wife and life-long friend, Joy. He leaves behind Sarah (Keith) Chadburn, Andrew (Sarah) Conant, Hannah (Ryan) Greene, Luke (Charlene) Conant, David Conant, and Lydie Conant. His 13 grandchildren are Autumn, Nathan, and Emma Chadburn; Alaina, Elanor, Helen, and Anderson Conant; Beckett, Ellowyn, and Huckston Greene; Calvin, Winston, and Evelee Conant.

Shane was predeceased by his mother, Dorothy; and grandmother, Evelee Cook.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Celebration of life will be held at East Auburn Baptist Church Wednesday the Dec. 18 at 4 p.m., 560 Park Ave., Auburn.

In lieu of flowers we ask that donations be made to the Root Cellar in Lewiston.
