Lewiston is dangerously close to being cut off from its water supply. For several hours between late Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning no water was flowing through the pipes from Lake Auburn to the reservoir because of the massing of broken ice around the intake. This Is the first time this condition occurred in nine years.

The situation is so serious that Superintendent Benjamin H. Keegan requests the citizens of Lewiston to use as little water as possible until the conditions have changed. At present the reservoir is being emptied rapidly. If this continues the city will be left without water for not only household purposes but also in cases of fires.

Hailee Marie Ingerson is only 2 months old, so of course she can’t read, but she had the recent honor of being the first recipient of the Welcome Baby book bags program in School Union 44.

Volunteer Stephanie Parker and her daughter, Marissa, drove to David and Tina Ingerson’s home in Oak Hill Trailer Park in Sabattus to drop off the little bag with song books, a “Born to Read” bib and information on parenting.

Debbie Daggett, coordinator of the literacy program for the 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant, said Parker and other volunteers will be kept busy in the coming months.

The material used in Looking Back is produced exactly as it originally appeared although misspellings and errors may be corrected.
