Libby Gail Brunjes Nilsen

BRUNSWICK – Libby Gail Brunjes Nilsen passed away on Dec. 11, 2024, at Mid Coast Hospital after a long battle with breast cancer. Born on Jan. 23, 1958, in Brunswick, Libby spent her final moments surrounded by family and close friends.

Libby was married to her best friend Tim for 48 years and spent a very active life together. They owned and operated several businesses including Lisbon Seafood and Lisbon Lobster and Lunch. During their life together they purchased their current residence and had a riding stable and boarding facility. Libby’s love of horses began as a child while living on her parent’s farm in Durham. She began showing her mother’s Arabians doing competitive trail riding, competed in dressage and eventing during this time. She also bred horses and her first foal, Karinna, was her pride and joy. She trained her to show, do dressage and trail riding. In addition to running a stable, she and Tim expanded their wholesale lobster business which they ran for many years. Libby was very active in all aspects of the business and was most proud to be able to run the winch.

In addition to all her business work, she worked at Rocky Hill Greenhouse in Brunswick until it closed. She continued to be close to the family and used the knowledge she gained while working there to open her own wholesale greenhouse at their home. Her beautiful hanging flowers were well known far and wide.

She fully believed in health and wellness and began her career with Plexus. She shared these beneficial supplements with many.

Libby loved the Lord and had a strong faith. She taught adult Sunday School, belonged to a Christian-based ladies group, spiritually uplifting each other and sharing Scripture.

She was a long time member of the Pejepscot Sno-Chiefs Club. One of her favorite events was working on the World’s Greatest Snow Ride. The Sno-Chiefs recently dedicated a trail to her for all of her work with the club.

She was a Maine Guide, along with her husband, and together they started North Road Outfitter Guide Service. She belonged to a women’s hunters group. She had a passion for teaching ladies and young hunters about bear hunting. She harvested many large bucks as well as bears. The quality of their guide service brought many customers to return year after year.

She loved being in the woods, camping, ATV riding, snowmobiling and in her early years was known to be heavy handed on the throttle.

She loved her German Shorthair Pointers, Ainsley, Celina and Orion.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jean Bunjes, Janet McIntire Brunjes, and her sister Kathy. She is survived by her husband Tim; a son Byron; a sister Patty Goodwin, a brother Jay; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Mid Coast Hospital, especially Dr. Stevens and RN Ashleigh for their above and beyond care.

Family and friends are invited to a casual Celebration of Life to be held on Jan. 25, 2025, at the Brunswick Church of Nazarene, McKeen St. in Brunswick, Maine at 11 a.m.
