Ruth H. Poirier

NAPLES, Fla. – Ruth H. Poirier, 96, died peacefully, Monday, Dec. 2, 2024, at her residence in Naples, Fla.

Ruth was born in Philadelphia, Pa. on July 11, 1928, and was the daughter of Joseph William and Dorcas (Peabody) Scrone. She was a graduate of Stephens High School in Rumford in the class of 1946. She was a member of the National Honor Society and catcher on the women’s softball team.

Ruth was married in Wahpeton, ND on Jan. 15, 1947, to John Paul Poirier. After living in Rumford, Maine for two years, she and John moved to Boston, where they lived together until 1996, and then moved to Naples, Fla. Ruth was passionately devoted to her family and friends and was a born-again Christian. She enjoyed spending summers at Worthley Pond, in Peru, Maine, with her children and grandchildren. She attended the Blaney Baptist Church in Boston and the Peru Baptist Church in Peru, Maine. She worked as a Telephone Operator for New England Telephone, AT & T and Nynex for 22 years until her retirement in 1989. In her later years in Naples, she enjoyed great fellowship with her best friend Judy Stevens.

Ruth is survived by two sons, Bill Poirier and his wife Yuki of Bonita Springs, Fla., Gerry Poirier and his wife Giselda of Roswell, Ga., one daughter, Betty Dawson and her husband Bill of West Chester, Pa.; five grandchildren, Michele Poirier-Windsor, Sean Burke, Bernadette (Poirier) Jacobs, Elizabeth (Poirier) Dickhaus, Caroline (Poirier) Kemp; eight great grandchildren; sisters, Marjorie Clarke of Rumford, and Jean Venditti of Hyde Park, Mass.; and nieces Susan Arsenault and Regine Smith. She was predeceased by her beloved husband John, and her younger brother, Wesley Scrone.

Funeral services will be held in the spring. Interment will be in St John Cemetery in Rumford, Maine. Arrangements are under the direction of the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St Rumford, ME.
