Charles Everett Heckbert Sr.
JAY – Charles Everett Heckbert Sr., of Jay, passed away on Dec. 15, 2024, at Franklin Memorial Hospital with his loving family by his side. He was born in Lewiston on Sept. 18, 1938, the son of the late Horace and Ada (Maxim-Dill) Heckbert and received his education in Jay schools.
In 1955 Charles met the love of his life Anita Roderigue at Livermore Shoe where they both worked, they were married on May 10, 1958. Charlie worked at Shapiro Shoe and Phillips Element where he retired in 2000.
Charlie and Anita bought their first house on 40 Elliot Avenue in Lewiston where they raised their four children: Sandra, Leon, Charles Jr., and Tina. Their house was filled with love and the door was always open for family and friends.
Charlie bought land on Androscoggin Lake and worked hard to get it ready for his family. He made campsites for each kid – this was his happy place where they had cookouts and family gatherings. They enjoyed going fishing or riding out on the party barge, relaxing on the beach or sitting by the campfire. Charlie loved fishing and hunting with his kids and grandkids. His favorite holidays were Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. He was a very giving person that just loved people and they loved him. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, his Harley Davidson Trike and his John Deere’s.
