DEAR SUN SPOTS: In the past, you have always been very helpful with Tommy’s Feral Felines. This year the need is especially great due to the devastation to all the feral cat colonies from the Dec. 17, 2023, storm.
We will be having Tommy’s Christmas Bake Sale and Bottle Drive this year at the Family Dollar store in Sabattus at 11 Middle Road on Saturday, Dec. 21, and on Sunday, Dec. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
We’re looking for bakers and Christmas baked goods. All baked goods must be wrapped, labeled and priced. (Please no cupcakes.)
Rooper’s Redemption Centers has graciously agreed to accept bottles and cans at all their locations; just identify your donation as going to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends Fund. Donations can also be made via Pay Pal at https://www.tommysferalfelinefriends.com/ , or sent to Tommy’s Feral Feline Friends at P.O. Box 274, Greene, ME 04236. Thank you to all who have supported Tommy’s Feral Felines. — John, Lewiston
ANSWER: I have such a soft spot in my heart for this organization. If you’re a cat lover, Tommy’s could really use your help.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Mexico Congregational Church, UCC (the “Green Church”) at 163 Main St. in Mexico, will observe Christmas Eve with a service of Carols and Candles on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 7 p.m. All are welcome to join in a celebration of the birth of the Christ Child. — Carol, Mexico
ANSWER: It’s so nice to know that area churches still have special Christmas services and that all are welcome whether they are a member of the congregation or not. Singing spiritual Christmas carols is timeless, good for the soul, and there are many opportunities to take part in this tradition, no matter where you live or where you are in your life.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have lived on Lisbon Street for six years and during that time I have enjoyed watching a tall, elderly gentleman walking his little white Scotty dog. I had several very nice conversations with him and enjoyed petting “Q,” his dog. I cannot remember this man’s name, but learned many interesting facts about his life, including that he drove a school bus for the Lewiston School District.
It has been quite a long time since I have seen him and I wondered if any Sun Spotters know any information about him. Together, he and Q were a real fixture on Lisbon St. for years. The sight of the two of them always made me smile! — Barbara, Lewiston
ANSWER: Since this letter was in a Monday Sun Spots, I decided to run it again, rewording the request just a bit. Hopefully, someone knows this gentleman and his dog who you have described so well. Anyone?
