Harriet Mckiel Johnson
YARMOUTH – Harriet Mckiel Johnson, formerly of Beverly, Massachusetts, and North Norway, passed Nov. 5, 2024, in her 94th year. Born June 12, 1930, Harriet was the third daughter of Elsie and Harry Mckiel. She grew up on her family farm in Albion Maine and attended University of Maine Orono class of 1952. After graduation, Harriet taught home economics in Brownville Junction, Rockland, and Providence schools. She married Ernest W. Johnson in 1958. She was a tender and loving mother to Kathleen (Charles) Brophy of Ipswich, Mass., Martha (Larry) Healy of Harpswell, and Ernie Johnson of Falmouth. Beloved Grandmother to CJ Brophy, Conor Brophy, Joe Healy, Alison Healy, Kaydie Johnson, Will Johnson and Chelsea Johnson. Sister to Charles (Marilyn) Mckiel and Alice (Dale) Hyerstay. Predeceased by her husband Ernest and sisters Phyllis (Bob) Bedig and Anne (Dick) Whatley.
Harriet’s life revolved around her family. She never missed a family event or sports game and hosted lovely gatherings in her beautiful homes. In later years, she could be found at family parties with her apron at the sink. She was an accomplished gardener and tended her flower beds until just recently. All the flowers in the garden will miss her. A long time rug hooker, Harriet served on the board for the Tin Pedlar of Maine chapter of traditional rug hooking artists. She spent many happy hours creating artistic projects. She had a true generosity of spirt and was kind to everyone. She loved lobster rolls and hot dogs, the many pets in her life, drives with her family and the wonderful simple pleasures of life. Harriet will be greatly missed by all who had the good fortune of knowing and loving her.
Harriet was buried in Albion. A remembrance of her life is being planned for next spring.
