ORONO – Roy Alan Mace, 88, born Feb. 28, 1936, to Roy A. and Doris True Mace at Central Maine General Hospital in Lewiston, passed away on Dec. 13, 2024 in Orono.

Roy grew up in the Monmouth area, attending Monmouth and Wales schools and Lewiston High School. He worked on area dairy farms as a teenager and in 1954 went to work for the H. E. Sargent Construction company in Stillwater, Maine, starting a 50-plus year career as a heavy equipment operator. During his career at Sargent’s, Roy was actively involved in most of the major construction projects throughout the State of Maine and earned a well-deserved reputation as an exceptionally hard worker and an excellent equipment operator. Roy married Janice Hinkley on June 16, 1956, in Monmouth, together they enjoyed over 68 years of marriage and raised a family that included three sons.

Roy loved vintage trucks and construction equipment, he belonged to the Pine Tree Chapter of Antique Trucks and several other similar organizations. He and Janice traveled to many meets throughout the country. Throughout his life Roy restored several antique trucks and tractors.

Roy’s top priority was always his family. He was always supporting his sons by working on any project they may have going on, such as helping Brent build a sawmill, Randy build his house, and Glenn building his camp on Cedar Lake. He enjoyed relaxing and boating at Aunt Jessie’s camp on Tacoma Lakes. In his younger days he enjoyed snowmobiling and in later years became a huge Nascar fan. He also enjoyed mowing the lawn and working around his place in Cardville. He was a country music fan and for Roy and Janice’s 50th Anniversary their boys sent them to Nashville, a trip they talked about for years after.

Surviving, in addition to his wife of 68 years, Janice Mace, are his sons, Randy and spouse Bonnie, Brent and spouse Bridget, Glenn and spouse Brenda; four grandchildren Brandon Mace, Ryan Mace, Abby Mace Gerbo and Kelby Mace; and five stepgrandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Roy was predeceased by two brothers, Malcom and Robert.

The family would like to offer their deepest appreciation to the staff at Orono Commons for the care and concern they showed Roy during his stay there.

Family and friends are encouraged to Celebrate Roy’s Life on Saturday Jan. 11, 2025, from 12-4 p.m., at the Old Town Elks Lodge , 37 4th Street , Old Town.
