DEAR SUN SPOTS: The Pleasant St. Drop-in Center at 169 Pleasant St. in Auburn will be open Christmas Day from 9-11 a.m. for a delicious Christmas Brunch. Thanks go to Operation You Matter, The Riding Soldiers Association, and Drop-in Center volunteers for making this possible.

This week, the center is low on these much-needed items: body wipes, tampons, AAA batteries, pocket size flashlights, handwarmers, gloves, blankets, men’s underwear in sizes medium and large in boxer brief style — this is our most common request for men’s underwear and sometimes there are also requests for regular boxers.

As always, thank you for your help and generosity. – Angela, no town

ANSWER: For those who may not be familiar with Pleasant St. Drop-in Center, it is a low-barrier resource center welcoming our unhoused neighbors. They serve a light breakfast and a full lunch Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to noon and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

They offer toiletries, clothing, food, and survival gear to guests, and showers are available on a sign-up basis.

All services are provided by volunteers. The surrounding communities support the program through donations of many kinds.

At this time, we especially have a need for new men’s and women’s underwear,  men’s winter coats and boots, gloves and hats, belts, hand and foot warmers, and blankets.

Other needs include backpacks, fans, microwaves, towels, pots and pans, blankets, sleeping bags, and disposable baby diapers.

We can also use new deodorant, toothbrushes, toothpaste, combs and brushes, razors, nail clippers, bar soap, body wash, shampoo and conditioner.

Unopened, unexpired supplies we use include bleach, coffee, powdered creamer, sugar, barbecue sauce, salad dressing, mayonnaise, ketchup, baked beans and individual condiment packets of ketchup, mustard, and relish. — No name, Lewiston
