Fire in the Livermore Falls high school building threatened its total destruction at 1:15 Friday afternoon.

Smoke was pouring from every window and door in the structure. Firemen were making a brave effort to stop the blaze, but there seemed little chance of their being successful. The building seemed doomed. The building was built about 10 years ago.

The cause of the fire is not known at this time.

The debating class was rehearsing in the building at the time and they escaped. There have been no sessions in the building for two weeks as vacation is now going on.

Valuation is estimated at $100,000 to replace the building.

The operator of a yellow four wheel-drive vehicle was the object of much confusion in Lewiston Wednesday night when he plowed one resident’s driveway demanding payment, although not hired by the resident, and then plowed a second driveway without payment.

According to police, the resident in the first incident told them the man demanded a payment of $10 for the job and threatened to put the snow back if not paid. He was paid and then police received a second report that the same vehicle apparently plowed out the second man’s yard and then left without demanding payment.

Police did not reveal the names of those involved as no charges were made.
