George W. Tibbetts Jr.
NORWAY -George W. Tibbetts, Jr., 93, of Norway passed away at his home on Sunday, Dec. 15, 2024, with his family by his side. He was born in Bethel on Sept. 22, 1931, the son of George, Sr. and Dorothy Burgess Tibbetts.
George graduated from Norway High School, Class of 1950 and had been a farmer all of his life. He faithfully served our country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and served in the reserves after that. He was a member of the Stone Smart American Legion Post #82. He participated in the Honor Flight Maine program. He was an owner/partner of TR & H Machine Shop from 1965 to 2020 and worked as a foreman at C.B. Cummings for 49 years.
He was a member of the S. Waterford Grange, Swinging Bears square dance club and a bowling league. He served on the Board of the Norway Library and was a Selectman for the Town of Norway.
George is survived by his son James and wife Rhonda; his daughters Melanie Carver and husband Lloyd and Vicki King; stepdaughter Penny Merrill; 9 grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and his sister Clara Tibbetts. He was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth; stepson Bruce Skinner; and brothers Bertrand and Robert Tibbetts.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 11, 2025, from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Stone-Smart American Legion Hall in Norway. Spring interment with military honors will be at Elm Vale Cemetery in South Waterford, time and date to be announced.
