Helene Aurelienne Lapointe

AUBURN – Helene Aurelienne Lapointe, 99, formerly of Lewiston, passed away peacefully on Saturday, Dec. 21, 2024, at The Chapman House in Auburn where she resided for the past seven months.

She was born in Lewiston on June 24, 1925, the daughter of the late Francois P. and Helene (Bourassa) Cloutier. She attended Saint Peter School and graduated from Cours Superieur in 1942.

On May 18, 1946 she married Gilbert Joseph Lapointe at Saints Peter & Paul Church in Lewiston; and he died on Dec. 1, 1993. She had been a homemaker for all her life.

She was a parishioner of Saints Peter & Paul Church her entire life, a member of Saint Peter Society, a longtime active member of Legion of Mary serving as a secretary and treasurer, as well as a hospitality minister.

Helene enjoyed crocheting, doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles, sewing and most of all enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by two daughters, Helene Maraghy and her husband Gerald of Brunswick and Rose Girard and her husband Armand of Auburn and Florida, two sons Gilbert J. LaPointe Jr and his wife Constance of Auburn and Leo R. Lapointe and his wife Margie of Shirley, Mass.; one brother, Noel Cloutier and his wife Yuri of Danbury, Conn., one sister Elise Hamel of Auburn, a brother-in-law Gerald Martel of Auburn; five grandchildren; and eight great grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband; two brothers Francois Paul Cloutier Jr. and his wife Lorraine and Georges Cloutier and his wife Irene, one sister Claudette Martel; and one grandson Jason Lapointe.

The family wishes to thank the staff at The Chapman House and Andwell Hospice for the excellent care they have given to Helene.

A Funeral Mass honoring Helene’s life will be celebrated on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at The Basilica of Saints Peter & Paul (Upper Church). Committal services will then follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 30, 2024 from 4 – 7 p.m. at The Fortin & Pinette Group, 305 Alfred A. Plourde Parkway in Lewiston, 784-4023.
