Frederick Mason Cilley

AUBURN – Frederick Mason Cilley, 91, a resident of Turner, passed away on Dec. 27, 2024, in Auburn.

Born on Oct. 19, 1933, to William H. and Hazel A. (Shaw) Cilley. Frederick dedicated his life to service, both in his career and personal passions. Frederick proudly served as a staff sergeant in the United States Air Force, where he was an aircraft maintenance instructor. His commitment to excellence and mentorship shaped the careers of many an airman. After his military service, he continued serving the community through his work with the State of Maine Department of Transportation, retiring at the young age of 51.

He graduated from Foxcroft Academy in Dover-Foxcroft, and furthered his education at East Coast Aero Tech in Massachusetts, which prepared him for his roles in both military and civilian life.

Frederick was an avid woodworker and gardener, finding peace and joy in the simplicity of nature and the complexity of his creations.

His involvement with the American Legion stood as a testament to his enduring commitment to fellow servicemen and women.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years, Margaret (Smith) Cilley of Turner; his son, Douglas and wife Tina Cilley of Turner, his daughter, Diane and her husband Anthony Danforth of East Machias; along with six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William H. and Hazel A. Cilley.
