John P. Crowley

AUBURN – John P. Crowley, 82, a resident of Jay, passed away Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at Schooner Memory Care in Auburn, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on Sept. 17, 1942, in Lewiston, the son of Daniel J. Crowley and Dorothy (Callahan) Crowley. He was a 1960 graduate of Edward Little High School in Auburn. Following school, he proudly served in the U.S. Army. On April 15, 1967, at Holy Cross Church in Lewiston, he married Rita Riendeau of Lewiston.

John worked at International Paper Company at the Androscoggin Mill in Jay as a journeyman pipefitter until his retirement.

He was a communicant of St. Rose of Lima Church in Jay, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, lecture, and very involved with the marriage encounter and Cursillo movements.

He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Holy Cross Cemetery Association Committee, International Paper Quarter Century Club, and the American Legion George Bunton Post #10 in Livermore Falls.

He enjoyed photography, hunting, fishing, volunteering at Androscoggin Hospice in Auburn, and was also a dedicated Red Cross Blood donor.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Rita Crowley of Jay; his children, Peter J. Crowley and companion Jenny of Livermore, Stephen D. Crowley and wife Kelly of York, Mary Boughman and husband Jamie of Warick, R.I., and James M. Crowley and wife Jeannine of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren, Banning, Kayleigh and Bennett Crowley, and James D. Boughman; his sister, Dorothy Crowley-Noel of Auburn, brothers Joseph D. Crowley and wife Celeste of Durham, and Paul Crowley of Portland, brother-in-law, Garnet Dawson and wife Noella of Jay; niece and nephews, Kathleen Noel King, Ralph Noel, Sean Noel, Joseph D. Crowley III, Christopher Crowley, Ryan Dawson and Patrick Crowley.

He was predeceased by his parents; infant sister, Kathleen Crowley and sister, Susanne Dawson.

A funeral Mass with full military honors will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, 2025, at St. Rose of Lima Church, 1 Church St., Jay. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church St., Livermore Falls. Interment at a later date at Holy Cross Niche, 445 Park St., Livermore Falls.
