Craig E. Turner
HANOVER – Craig E. Turner passed away on Dec. 22, 2024. He was born to the late Gerald and Lula (Mills) Turner on March 24, 1943. in Rumford, Maine. On his 27th birthday, he welcomed his 2nd daughter and was always enamored with the special bond.
He worked in the Rumford Paper Mill his entire life, retiring from New Page in 2011 with 48 years of service. He was the oldest man working there.
He was an avid wood worker, following in his father’s footsteps, taking pride in crafting pieces for his home, wife, and daughters. He spent many hours in his shop and on his computer designing future projects.
His lifelong dream was accomplished when he strip-built a gorgeous kayak and two beautiful canoes for his family. Many hours were spent on Howard Pond and the Androscoggin River, making memories that lasted a lifetime.
He spent many days “upta camp” with “the boys”, Bernard (Barny) Frost and Bob Carrier. The best buds loved their time at Lady Edith and proudly kept the camp and its grounds in perfect condition. Each fall, they hunted the big buck seen on their trail cam, spent many hours four wheeling, snowmobiling, playing cribbage and drinking beer by the fire.
He was a member of the Knights of Pythias for 61 years, making the rank of Knight on Dec. 2, 1963. He proudly worked through the ranks and was Grand Chancellor for the state of Maine. He drove the roads of Maine, with his friends Gee Hutchinson and later Freeman Farrington, visiting other lodges. His dear friend, Spencer Couture, fellow Cabot Lodge member, not only provided rides but helped enormously during his illness.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lillian; his daughters Jeanette and husband Jeff Jacques of Rumford, Jennifer; and his special friend Wayne Caspersen of Auburn.
He was predeceased by his brother Arthur Turner of Auburn.
A service will be held at a later date. Arrangements are under the care of Chandler Funeral Homes and Cremation Service, 45 Main St., South Paris. Online condolences may be shared with Craig’s family at http://www.chandlerfunerals.com
