Shirley F. (Pease) Smith
LEEDS – Shirley F. (Pease) Smith went home to be with the Lord at the age of 89, at her home in Leeds on Jan. 5, 2025, with family by her side.
The youngest born of four, plus one adopted, to Alton A. and Erna M. Pease of Leeds on Nov. 7, 1935. She was a graduate of Monmouth Academy, and then attended Bible School in Illinois where she met and married Elmer E. Smith of Hagerstown, Md., who later passed in 2018. They had five children, Carole (Philip Warner), Michael (Methyl), Wayne and girlfriend Nancy Bouffard, Gary (Tammy), and Rachael (Jerry Evens).
Shirley lived in Maine, Maryland, and Florida, and worked in textile mills, a rubber stamp factory, a power steering factory, Murphy Homes and cleaned homes.
Shirley and Elmer (later called “Gene”) eventually settled back in Maine where they would live out their retirement years. She loved her dogs, garden, and helping landscape their property, and playing the piano for the church that she called “family”.
She leaves behind five children, Carole (Philip) Warner, Michael (Methyl) Wayne and girlfriend Nancy Bouffard, Gary (Tammy) and Rachel (Jerry); 13 grandchildren, one step-grandchild; 30 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
She will truly be missed.
A celebration of life will be held May 10, at 11 a.m. at Faith Alliance Church, 18 Pleasant St., Winthrop.
