WEST PARIS – Martha Carol Mills, 76 of West Paris passed away unexpectedly in her home on Friday, Jan. 24, 2025..

A graduate of Central Maine Medical Center’s School of Nursing, “Carol” faithfully delivered quality care to patients in the emergency department of two local hospitals during a career that spanned multiple decades. She was well known for her nursing skills and her ability to think on her feet. Many lives were impacted as a result of her tireless dedication to the nursing profession.

Carol’s advocacy was not limited to the emergency department. She had a great love for animals, especially those that were abandoned. Her efforts and involvement in greyhound adoption were groundbreaking in the State of Maine.

Her approach to life was spirited and passionate. Never backing down from adversity, Carol chose to face challenging situations head-on regardless of whether or not the challenges were in the professional or personal realms.

She was a member of the Elizabeth Wadsworth Chapter of the DAR in Portland, and the Jamestown society in Richmond, Va. Independence, loyalty to her family and the pursuit of making things better for others were hallmarks of her life. She will be missed.

She is survived by her brother James Hamilton, sons, Ryan and Randy, daughter-in-law Yvonne, grandson Jake and stepgranddaughter Annika Kahkonen. Carol and her husband O’Neil mills were married for 54 years until his passing in 2018.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 1, at 3 p.m., at the Chandler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 45 Main Street, South Paris with a time of visitation from 1-3 p.m., prior to the service Interment will be in the spring at Stuarts Corner Cemetery.
