Barbara Ann (Walker) Lyman
MONMOUTH – Barbara Ann (Walker) Lyman, 85, a longtime resident of Greene, and more recently of Monmouth, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2025 at her home in Monmouth, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Feb. 2, 1939, in Lewiston, the daughter of Jay A. Walker and Marion (Cromwell) Walker. She grew up in Sabattus, with her eight brothers and sisters, all of whom made the most of what the town had to offer.
She eventually met a young man from Wales while they rode the school bus to high school, Lewiston for Mom and Auburn for Dad. During high school, Mom would work summers for the New England Telephone Company and after graduating from Lewiston High School in 1956 she continued working at the telephone company for over 30 years. She married that young man from the school bus, Harland E. Lyman, on Sept. 20, 1958, in Lewiston.
They started their family while living in Auburn and moved to Greene in 1966 where they filled their house with six daughters. She had her hands full raising the girls, however thoroughly enjoyed the grandchildren they brought into her life. She found the greatest joy attending sporting and school events of her grandchildren. They enjoyed the local community sporting events so much that they continued to support the teams until her passing.
Following retirement, she worked for Weight Watchers for 20 years. She was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Celtics. Her hobbies included knitting, crocheting, playing cards, and playing video games.
Barbara was a long-time member of the Baptist Church of Greene, the American Baptist Women of Maine, and the Lewiston/Auburn Camp of the Gideons International Auxiliary.
Barbara is survived by her husband of 66 years, Harland E. Lyman of Monmouth; her children, Pam and Rich Perron of Bradford, Mass., Lisa and Brian Bubier of Monmouth, Linda and Jim Harris of Monmouth, Jodi and Doug Beck of Edgecomb, and Jadine and David Crane of Oquossoc; 16 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren; her sister, Jean Tarr of Enfield, Conn. and her brother, John Walker of Sabattus.
She was predeceased by her parents; six siblings; and daughter, Janet Eustis, who passed away in 2012.
