LEWISTON – Donald Robert Ouellette, born Oct. 18, 1934, in Lewiston, Maine, passed away on Feb. 2, 2025, at Maine Medical Center in Portland at the age of 90. He was the beloved son of the late Adrien and Laurea Ouellette and favorite brother to his sisters Phyllis and Elaine.

In 1960, Don married Norma Pike, with whom he shared a beautiful life until her passing in 2003. Together, they raised two children, Robert Ouellette and Karen Coughlin. His legacy continues through his grandchildren, Jocelyn Fiorella, Jason Ouellette, Shawn Ouellette, Adam Coughlin, Danielle Coughlin, and his five great-grandchildren.

In 2006, Don married Julie Theriault, who remained by his side until his final days. A man of many passions, Don was an avid hunter and a former champion skeet shooter. His adventurous spirit led him fishing in Alaska and Northern Canada, while his green thumb and craftsmanship made him a dedicated gardener and woodworker.

Don joined the military after high school, serving as a Morse code operator, before embarking on a successful career in catalog merchandising in both Maine and Illinois. He retired as Vice President from K’s Merchandise in Decatur, Illinois, in 2005 after 26 years of dedicated service. After retirement, Don returned to his beloved state of Maine.

Don really enjoyed living by the water where he had built his first camp on Spear Pond as a teenager, and later designed a cabin on Moosehead Lake. His most recent home on picturesque Orrs Island allowed him to enjoy the ocean’s beauty every day.

Don took immense pride in his family, especially his grandchildren. His remarkable sense of humor and tenacious nature will be remembered by all who knew him.

A family celebration of Don’s life will be held in his honor at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory.
