I recently read Austin Bay’s opinion piece on President Trump’s plan for Palestine (“New Gaza as condos, not shell holes,” Feb. 7), at first with anger that he would write so satirically about an enduring and painful struggle, and then with horror when I realized he was seriously endorsing the plan.
To collude with a scheme to make a resort out of the Palestinian homeland, happy that we might transform the rubble into something attractive for new occupants, is to ignore the humanity of all in the region and promulgate a racist, genocidal solution to the violence underway.
As Trump proposes displacing Black and brown immigrants into camps, colonizing the Middle East and blaming tragic accidents on DEI efforts — all while inventing his new Black Power-like salute — the comparisons to the terrors of the past are chilling.
We should all be horrified and active in disputing this regime.
