Pamela Coffin-Vigue
AUBURN – We remember a meaningful life with gratitude as we announce the passing of Pamela Coffin-Vigue of Auburn, Maine—a loving wife, devoted mother, cherished daughter and sister, talented artist, skilled gardener, and beloved friend—who left us peacefully on what would have been her late mother’s 80th birthday.
Born in picturesque Norway, Maine, Pam’s early years in Oxford County were shaped by the beauty of her Grandpa’s farm, which instilled in her a profound and lasting connection to the natural world. This bond evolved into a talent for nurturing life as she became a mother and passionately pursued her love for gardening and horticulture.
As a proud member of the American Horticultural Society and a certified Master Gardener, she wore her accomplishments as a badge of honor. Yet, it was in the simple joys of gardening—working barefoot in her cherished gardens—that Pam found her greatest happiness, surrounded by the vibrant beauty and charm of her thoughtfully created spaces.
Pam was an artist in every sense, intentionally crafting each beautiful chapter of her life. Her creative spirit illuminated every corner of her world. She began by sewing doll clothes as a child and later became a skilled hairdresser—her first professional creative endeavor. Eventually, she discovered her passion for knitting, quilting, and various fiber arts, with each handcrafted piece reflecting her warm heart.
Sharing her creations filled her with happiness; her generosity knew no bounds. Whether it was a pair of cozy mittens, a vibrant quilt, a tray of seedlings, or a delicate piece of art, each gift carried love, serving as a heartfelt token of her affection. Pam’s artistry was more than just a hobby; it was a cherished way of connecting with the world around her.
For Pam, there was truly no one quite like her husband, Mark “Keko” Vigue. Their journey began in high school, where they formed a lifelong bond that blossomed into a beautiful partnership. Together, they cherished countless shared experiences and memories that became the foundation of their love. The arrival of their only child added new dimensions of joy and purpose to their relationship, further solidifying their connection. They fully embraced life’s adventures, enjoying everything from camping trips on Tumbledown Mountain to lively road trips. Together, they nurtured their passions for canoeing, antique car shows, demolition derbies, fishing, and concerts. Maine’s cherished community events, like Maine Open Farm Day, Maine Maple Sunday, and the Common Ground Country Fair, held a special place in their hearts, drawing them nearer to the people, animals, and places they loved. These countless experiences shaped an admirable landscape of unforgettable moments, defining the terrain of their lives together.
Pam had a remarkable gift for mixing brazen honesty with a quick wit that could surprise even the most reserved. Her humor was so colorful that it could often knock you sideways, making her perfectly suited to be her rockstar’s number one fan. She channeled her creativity into sewing stylish outfits for Keko’s band, seamlessly blending her artistic vision with his musical talent. Whenever they were around, their presence was hard to miss. Pammy would cruise up in her beloved 1970 Chevelle Malibu convertible, affectionately dubbed her “babe wheels,” with Keko by her side, his guitar case—elegantly embroidered by Pam—stowed in the back. This vivid portrayal of them as a couple, united by their love for music, creativity, and each other, beautifully encapsulates the essence of their 43-year journey.
Pam possessed an extraordinary gift for authenticity. She always knew how to endearingly “keep it real,” whether sharing her thoughts or offering support. Her genuine spirit drew people in, making them feel seen and understood. With her remarkable ability to cut through the noise, she encouraged others to embrace honesty and openness in their lives.
Throughout her life, Pam endured her share of heartache, particularly the loss of her mother at a young age. Yet, the promise of an eventual reunion with her remained a constant source of reassurance—a hope that guided her through life’s trials. With a touch of poetic timing, Pam passed away on her mother’s birthday—perhaps a reminder of the unbreakable and eternal connection between mothers and daughters.
As a devoted mother, Pam cherished her close relationship with her daughter, Misty, finding her greatest joy in watching her flourish. Pam’s nurturing spirit instilled in Misty the importance of empathy and the strength that comes from loving deeply. With her mother’s guidance as a solid foundation, Misty embraced principles of courage, advocacy, intuition, authenticity, and resilience—each a testament to their unshakable connection. As time passes, Pam’s spirit will continue to influence Misty’s actions and values, with her love and lessons echoing in every step her daughter takes.
Pam’s faith was her anchor—a guiding force that filled her life with love and acceptance. Deeply devoted to the teachings of Jesus, she welcomed everyone, believing in the worth of each person, particularly those pushed to the margins of society. As each ‘chosen child,’ particularly in their formative years, gravitated toward her, Pam loved them without reservation. They sought her humor, her understanding, and the sharp, honest truth that only she could provide. With Pam, you could be your true self—and always feel loved. In her presence, you were home, embraced as one of her own.
In addition to her roles as a loving mother figure and cherished best friend to her sister Marlo, Pam’s heart was filled with love for her quilting groups, her two beloved dogs, her church community, and the enduring bond with her lifelong friend, Cindy.
As we navigate the shadows of grief, we find solace in the light of spring—a season that mirrors the tenacity and beauty she carried within her. We invite all who knew her to gather this spring, her favorite time of year, to celebrate her life and embrace the spirit of renewal.
We love you, Ma, and know your eternal garden has only just begun.
