James A. “Jim Sal” Salatino

DIXFIELD – James A. “Jim Sal” Salatino, passed away peacefully in his home, on Friday February 14, 2025 surrounded by his loving family and his favorite dogs.

Jimmy grew up in Smithcrossing, a proud Italian American, the son of Vito and Theresa (Papasadora) Salatino and was a brother to 10 siblings.

Jimmy graduated from Stephens High School in 1958 and proudly served as a veteran in the Army and National Gurad as a Tank Driver. He worked 41 as a Millwright for Boise Cascade and Mead Paper. His retirement gigs ranged from bus driver at Sunday River to Security Guard at Irving Lumber, before his iconic stint as a greeter at Walmart in Mexico.

Jimmy was the happiest and friendliest guy you could have ever met, always with a big smile and NEVER without a joke. The life of the party, he always brought laughter and joy to any room that he “invaded”.

There was nothing he loved more than spending time with his family. He was also a permanent fixture at the Eagles, the Sons of Italy as well as all of New England Casinos. He couldn’t go anywhere without being recognized by someone he once made laugh. He would always greet them with his classic “Hey what do ya say !!

A Loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, friend to everyone he met and best friend to his children. Jimmy was an amazing man, full of life and happiness who will always be fondly remembered and sadly missed.

He is survived by his loving wife Betty (Philbrick) Salatino, his children Chadwick Salatino and Angela Salatino, grandchildren Timothy Falso and Aurora Falso, great granddaughter Faith Falso and a sister, Julia Salatino.

A Mass of Christian Burial along with his brother Joseph Salatino will be celebrated 11 AM on Saturday May 17, 2025 at the Parish of The Holy Savior St Athanasius St John Church 126 Maine Ave, Rumford, ME. Friends are invited to call at the Meader & Son Funeral Home 3 Franklin St Rumford, ME 6-8 PM on Friday May 16, 2025.
