Barbara Lloyd Burns

MEXICO – Barbara Lloyd Burns, 98, of Mexico, passed away on Feb. 13, 2025, after many cherished years with her family.

Barbara was born on Oct. 2, 1926, to James and Mary Ellen (Crawford) Lloyd in Rumford. After attending Rumford schools and Stephens High School she worked for the Oxford paper company as a paper inspector with five years of service.

On Aug. 27, 1950, at the Rumford Methodist Church Barbara married the love of her life, James M. Burns, Jr. James (Bud) and Barbara Burns celebrated 61 wonderful years of marriage and together they raised three children whom they were very proud of. The family resided at the home Bud & Barbara built on Roxbury Rd. and enjoyed summers at their camp at Worthley Pond.

Barbara retired after 20 years of service as the lead Baker at the Mexico High School cafeteria. She helped start the school hot lunch program and was famous for her homemade rolls, cakes and pizza.

Barbara was a true “woman for all seasons”. She enjoyed skating, skiing and snowmobiling in the winter and hunting with her husband in the fall. She hand knit socks, hats, and mittens for everyone in the neighborhood. Barbara had a green thumb and planted a large garden every spring and shared the bounty with others. She enjoyed, tending her flowers, reading, cooking, and waiting on others. Barbara loved summer and made sure her children were good swimmers.

She was very generous and caring.

Barbara was next to the youngest and the last surviving of 11 siblings.

She loved the Lloyd reunions and family gatherings and was blessed with many special nieces and nephews.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and Aunt. Survivors include two sons James M. Burns, III and his wife Linda of Rumford, Scott L. Burns and his wife Becky of Bristol, Tennessee, one daughter, Bonny Beausoleil and her husband Patrick of St. Stephen, New Brunswick Canada; grandchildren, and great grandchildren are Kassie Elliott and her husband Brandon and their children Brielle, and Maxwell of Rumford, Linnea Burns and her fiancé Rodney Leach and their children, AJ and Kambri of Sumner, ME, Brent and Amy Hinton and their children, Jordan, Abagayle and Brady of Kentucky, Dana and Ryan Stiles and their children, Joshua, Devan and Jacob, of Tennessee and Kentucky, Aimee Beausoleil, and her children Tanner and Rylee-Mae of St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Kaylee Disher and her son William of St. Stephen, New Brunswick.

Barbara lost her husband and soulmate James in 2012. She was predeceased by her father-in-law J. Maxwell Burns, Sr. and her good friend and mother-in-law Marion (Welch) Burns Swan, six beloved sisters, Luella, Ethel, Margaret, Bertha, Dot and Ruthie, and brothers Norman, Fred, Robert, and Leonard.

At Barbara‘s request, there will be no visitation or funeral services. She will be laid to rest at the Farrington-Morton Cemetery, Mexico, in the spring.
