Irene M. Legere Charpentier
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – On Feb. 8, 2025, Irene M. Legere Charpentier passed away at her home in Fredericksburg, Va., at the age of 91, with her niece, nephew, and great-niece by her side.
Born in Lewiston, in 1933, the daughter of Abel and Rolande Legere. She was one of four sisters who all preceded her in death. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Jackman, for 10 years. After graduation, she worked at Shapiro’s shoe factory, where she met her late husband, Eddie Charpentier, through a mutual friend. They married on September 5, 1959, and later welcomed their only child, Donna-Marie.
Irene became a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) at Marcotte Nursing Home, where she worked for many years. She eventually gave up her career to care for her daughter, who returned home after spending two years at Newington’s Children’s Hospital in Connecticut. Irene was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her family first.
In her free time, Irene enjoyed camping, playing cards, crocheting, stamping and embossing greeting cards, and decorating her home for every occasion. Her greatest joy was her family, and everyone she met became a part of it.
In retirement, Irene and Eddie lived in Leesburg, Florida, for 20 years. After Eddie’s diagnosis of dementia and declining health, they moved to Fredericksburg, Va., to live with her niece Linda Richards and her husband David, who cared for Irene lovingly and devotedly until her passing.
Irene is survived by her daughter, Donna-Marie Charpentier, her partner, Keith Elliott, and family, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Irene will be held later this summer, followed by the Rite of Committal and burial at St. Peter’s Cemetery in Lewiston, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association in her memory.
