Shirley F. Pettengill
LEEDS – Shirley F. Pettengill, 88, a resident of Leeds, passed away Monday, Feb. 24, 2025, in Auburn with all of her loving family by her side. She was born on March 14, 1936, in Wales, the daughter of Reginald P. Foster and Louise (Webster) Foster. She attended Monmouth schools and later received her G.E.D. On Aug. 16, 1952, in Sabattus, she married her high school sweetheart, Rodney A. Pettengill of Leeds. They enjoyed 66 years of marriage before his passing in 2018.
Shirley was a homemaker until 1972 when they started the family business, Pettengill Printing, retiring after 50 years. She was a member of the Presbyterian Church and the Maine Cooperative Extension of Leeds. Shirley enjoyed gardening, sewing, watching the birds, being with family, spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and hosting all the family events.
She is survived by her three sons, Bruce Pettengill of Leeds, Michael Pettengill and his wife Jackie of Auburn, Gregory Pettengill and his wife Michelle of Lewiston, nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucille Bauer of Wales, Mary Pollard of Monmouth; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband; grandson, Justin Pettengill; a brother, Richard Foster, an infant brother, Larry Foster; and a daughter-in-law, Jean Pettengill. Messages of condolences may be made to: www: finleyfuneralhome.com.
A private graveside service will be held in the spring at Leeds Center Cemetery, Rt 106, Leeds, Maine. Arrangements by BRAGDON-FINLEY FUNERAL HOME, 707 Main Street, Monmouth, Maine.
