Wanda Foss Kimbrough

AUBURN – Wanda Foss Kimbrough, 85, of Auburn, passed away on Friday, Feb. 28, 2025, at the Andwell Hospice House.

The daughter of late Rosanna (Myrand) Foss, she was born in Lewiston on March 30, 1939. Wanda grew up in Auburn, graduated from Edward Little High School, Class of 1958. In 1960 she was accepted and graduated from Northeast Airline Flight Attendant Training Program in Boston, Mass.

While working out of Boston, Wanda met her husband William Bert Kimbrough Jr., of Marks, Miss., a career Army Aviator, flying helicopters from Fort Banks, Winthrop, Mass. In November, 1964, Wanda and Bill were married in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Wanda spent many years traveling with her husband as he pursued a military career. In addition to military quarters, they maintained a residence in Auburn, where she lived when William was assigned to Vietnam. While living in Wiesbadenm Germany, she attended art school and later taught needlework at the Elsa Williams School of Needlework and Design. After Bill retired from the Army in 1979, the couple moved back to Maine and in 1984, Wanda was chosen as one of ten needle workers in a program sponsored by the University of Maine called Remnants of Our Lives. Photos of her needlework are at the Hudson Museum in Orono.

Wanda was on the Class of 1958 Reunion Committee and enjoyed her time helping organize the classes 45th and 50th reunion. Her interests included politics, gardening, beading and she belonged to several needlework guilds. She loved animals and was an advocate for their good treatment. Small poodles were her favorite and Sassy, Misty and Gracie gave her much enjoyment.

Wanda is survived by her husband William of 61 years; daughter Susan Lambert and her husband Darren of Auburn; sister Sally Gagnon of Auburn; and many other relatives. She touched a lot of hearts, will be missed for her great personality, kindness and loving heart.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a funeral service on Saturday, March 8, 2025 at 12 p.m. at Gracelawn Memorial Park, 980 Turner St, Auburn.
