Norman “Norm” H. LaFosse

BATH – Norman “Norm” H. LaFosse passed away peacefully at his home on March 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on Jan. 30, 1937, in Fitchburg, Mass., to Emile C. and Agnes M. (Gauvin) LaFosse.

He graduated from St. Bernard’s High School in 1955. Norm obtained his Bachelors of Science in Paper Engineering from Lowell Tech in 1966. He married Mary F. Walsh in 1965. Norm worked as an engineer for International Paper Co. for 30 years and played an active role in his community in Jay, Maine.

Norm was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, always bringing his humor and sunshine wherever he went. He loved being with his grandchildren outside building snowmen, shucking fresh corn from the garden and teaching them to ice skate on the pond. Norm and Mary’s house was a fun destination out in the country for the nieces and nephews, and dear friends. The house was always full of home cooked meals and laughter.

Norm had a deep love for baseball and shared that enthusiasm by coaching his children in AYS sports in Jay. He was an enthusiastic fan of the Boston Red Sox and enjoyed watching the Olympics and football. Perhaps most of all, he cherished cheering on his granddaughters from the sidelines at their basketball and soccer games.

A man of many talents and interests, Norm enjoyed working on home projects big and small, from building his own house to tiling floors and caning chairs. His passion extended to cultivating a large vegetable garden in Jay. An avid reader with a keen interest in current events, he remained engaged in the world around him. Until 2017, he found joy in daily walks. Despite his declining health in the last few years of his life, he continued to enjoy family celebrations with home made cakes, drives to the ocean and singing along to his favorite tunes. He will be remembered by his family and friends for his kindness, quiet humor, love of reading and strong work ethic.

Norm shared 59 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Mary LaFosse. He is survived by his son, John LaFosse and his daughter, Alicia LaFosse of Bath; three granddaughters, Nicole O’Brien, her husband Scott Nebel and great-grandson Quinn, Lea Machnitzky and her partner Patrick Yurek, and Eva Machnitzky of Portland. He leaves behind 11 nephews, Michael, David, Jamie, Richard, David, Wayne, Mark, Kerry, Joey, Brian and Kevin and four nieces Suzie, Kathleen, Angela, and Erin. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel LaFosse; his siblings, Frank LaFosse, Lilian LeBlanc, and Gerald LaFosse; and his parents.

Visiting hours will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025 from 4 to 7 p.m. with a celebration of life on Saturday March 15, 2025, 10am at Daigle Funeral Home, 819 High Street, Bath. Condolences may be made online at http://www.DaigleFuneralHome.com.
