In the 1800s, when Maine became a state, we had naturally occurring wolves. We eradicated them because of their actions. We, mankind, became the top predator and have learned a lot along the way. We now manage all types of wildlife and do quite well.
Coyotes are an “invasive species” to this state. We do not need them. We do not want them. We do not want to eliminate them, but to manage them as we do other wildlife.
Protecting coyotes as proposed in L.D. 716 would increase their numbers, as well as the problems they cause with wildlife, farm animals and pets.
On T.V. this weekend was an item about a neighborhood in Bangor experiencing a problem with coyotes.
We need to do away with L.D. 716.
