The pictures of the Maine Music Society (MMS) concert in the March 10 paper were a wonderful recognition of our concerts this past weekend.
I would like your readers to know that, in addition to the piece pictured, the concert included a piece dedicated to the victims of the shooting on Oct. 25, 2023.
“These Things Shall Never Die,” commissioned by MMS, received its world premiere this past weekend. The text, attributed to Charles Dickens, expresses the nature of compassion, empathy, love and mercy as enduring qualities of hope and resilience. The music resonated with our audiences and was met with extended applause at both performances.
The accents to our concert attire also were sewn, in Lewiston blue, to be part of our artistic response to the mass shooting that touched all our lives in so many ways.
Thank you for acknowledging our work.
