Newell is an active member of Bethel’s dance community, too. “For the past three years we have listened to this student’s voice as they read the morning announcements and led us through the pledge of allegiance,” wrote Eliot in the commendation.

The Maine Principals award, sponsored by the Maine Principals Association, is given to a senior in recognition of their academic achievement and citizenship. The Principals Award is presented in more than 100 Maine public and private high schools by member principals of the MPA. All Recipients are invited to attend a luncheon with their building principal being held on Saturday, April 5, at Jeff’s Catering in
Bangor. At the honors luncheon, recipients will be recognized with the presentation of an individual plaque and have the chance of winning one of ten $1,000 scholarships in the names of former Maine principals.

Eliot writes, “Emma’s commitment to excellence and community service highlights the values that the Maine Principals Award seeks to recognize. In addition to the recognition and possible scholarship on the 5th, Emma will receive a $250 scholarship from Telstar High school to use at her discretion. Congratulations Emma!”
