
Larry G. Melcher Sr.
FARMINGTON – Larry G. Melcher, Sr., 80, a resident of Jay, passed away Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Sandy River Center in Farmington. He was born on Oct. 25, 1944, in Claremont, New Hampshire, the son of Edward and Laudina (Coulombe) Melcher. He was a 1963 graduate of Jay High School and graduated from Maine Vocational School in South Portland. On July 3, 1965, in North Jay, he married Elaine Tardif of Jay. Larry worked as a mechanic for Hammie Allen at Allen’s Garage in North Jay and later for the Town of Jay until his retirement in 2006. Larry was a member of the Jay Fire Department for 31 years and served as a former fire chief. He was also a member and former President of the Franklin County Fireman’s Association. He enjoyed snowmobiling, camping, riding motorcycles, bowling, and going to his son’s and grandson’s stock car races.
He is survived by his wife Elaine Melcher of Jay, sons, Larry Melcher, Jr. (Geri Deschenes) of Jay, Curt Melcher (Angel) of Livermore Falls, grandchildren, Lyndzey Melcher, Logan Melcher (Mary), Kyle Melcher (Destiny) and great-grandson, Henry Melcher, his brother Eddie Melcher, Jr. (Angie) of Jay and daughter-in-law, Wendy Melcher of Livermore Falls.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Robert Melcher, and sisters, Violet Viotto, Theresa Bergeron, and Marcie O’Brien. Messages of condolence may be sent to: http://www.finleyfuneralhome.com
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, March 29, at Finley Funeral Home, 15 Church Street, Livermore Falls. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., prior to the funeral service. Firefighter members will meet at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home for Firefighters’ honors at 12 p.m. Interment Lakeview Cemetery, Route 2, Wilton, at a later date.
