Donald Rose Sr.

ROANOKE, Va. – Donald Louis Rose of Roanoke, Virginia, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family, on March 30, 2025. He was 85 years old.

He was born on May 22, 1939, in Fayette, Maine, to Frank and Barbara (Wills) Rose.

A lifelong mechanic with a passion for fixing things, Don was a hard worker with a creative spirit. He was a hands-on man that could tackle any project with skill and determination. His ingenuity was admired by all who knew him.

Donald liked a good game of “Beano” and watching NASCAR races and tv shows with the volume at inconceivable levels. He liked making whirligigs and birdhouses, which decorated his yard. He shared these with all of his friends, family, and neighbors.

He was known for his incredible storytelling and remarkable memory, always ready to share tales from his life with vivid detail. He had unmatched humor and a sharp wit. Though he carried his fair share of stubbornness, it was no match for the love of his children and grandchildren, who softened him in ways that only family can.

Don was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Rose M. Rose. He leaves behind his sons, Donald Rose Jr, Andrew Conohan, and Randy Rose; his daughters, Belinda Eastwood and Carrie Gagnon; and his sisters, Patsy Watt, Linda Hanson, Marlene Frechette, and Diane Carney.

He was predeceased by his sons, Gary and David Rose; his daughter Lisa Patino; his brothers, Frank Jr., Birchard, Eddie, and Bobby Rose; and his sister Jeanette Hartford, who always remained in his heart.

Donald will be missed beyond measure, but he will live on forever in the hearts and memories of his family and friends.
