Susan M. Belanger
LEWISTON – Susan M. Belanger passed away peacefully on March 28, 2025, surrounded by her family. She was born in Rumford on Aug. 15, 1951, to the late Robert and Theresa Belanger. She was a beloved sister, partner, mother, and grandmother who was affectionately known to her family as “Grammy B”.
Susan was educated in Rumford Schools and graduated from Stevens High School Class of 1969. She went on to attend the University of Maine at Machias as well as the University of Southern Maine graduating with a degree in teaching with a minor in business.
After graduation, Susan began teaching within the Old Orchard school district. She loved educating children and found fulfillment knowing she was making a difference in their lives. Later in life she worked as a bookkeeper for Verrill Dana.
Sue enjoyed a wide range of hobbies including painting, reading, doing puzzles, and sewing outfits for her granddaughters and their dolls. She looked forward to the Thanksgiving holiday and preparing meat pies, which is a tradition she’s passed down to her son.
She was an incredibly caring mother and grandmother, and thoroughly supported her children and grandchildren. She loved following their schooling, sporting events and activities, and simply hearing about their days. Through the years the family has made many lasting memories that they will hold on to and cherish forever.
Susan is survived by her partner, Philip Wight, of Rumford; her brother, Richard Belanger and his wife Pamela of Saco; her son, Benjamin and his wife Kate, their daughter Isabella and son Benjamin Matthew of Cumberland; and her daughter, Elizabeth Nolette and her husband Kevin and their daughter Luna of Lewiston.
She was predeceased by her parents; and her brother, Thomas Belanger.
Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
Visitation will be held Thursday April 10 from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at S.G. Thibault Remembrance Center, 250 Penobscot St., Rumford.
