Humor, heart and romance at The Public Theatre
LEWISTON — They say there are no “do-overs” in life, but if you could get one, would you take it? Late one night in an Irish pub in Chicago, a young bartender and his girlfriend receive an intriguing proposition from a mysterious last-minute customer offering them $2,000 to sit and talk with him for an hour. What follows is an unexpected emotional time-warp filled with laughter, romance, tears and a valuable life lesson.
The scene and the lessons learned play out in The Public Theatre’s upcoming production of the romantic comedy “Now and Then,” running from May 2-11.
The professional cast includes Mitch Poulos (“Curb your Enthusiasm,” “The Office,” “Criminal Minds” and “Arrested Development”); Linda Marie Larson (on Broadway in productions including “Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike” and on TV including “Succession,” “House of Cards,” “Blue Bloods” and “Masters of Sex”); Dylan S. Wallach (on Broadway in the Tony Award-winning “Leopoldstadt” and in “Betrayal”); and Allison Altman (on Broadway in “Birthday Candles” and in the Huntington Theatre’s hit “Triumph of Love”).
Public Theatre Artistic Director Janet Mitchko says, “’Now and Then’ looks at love through the eyes of a couple in their 20s as well as in their 60s and offers an important piece of advice for audiences of all ages.”

A history walking tour, and back

WISCASSET — The Museum in the Streets Committee is set to offer Boom to Bust and Back Again, a free walking tour held as part of the global Jane’s Walk festival of free volunteer-led walking tours. The tour will begin at 10. a.m. Saturday, May 3, at Castle Tucker and winds its way through the historic town concluding at the scenic waterfront.
The tour is free; go to wiscassetcreativealliance.org.
Led by Peggy Konitzky, Midcoast Maine site manager for Historic New England, and Shannon Gilmore, executive director of the Lincoln County Historical Association, the walk offers an informative stroll through Wiscasset’s past.
Participants can explore the evolution of the town from a booming international seaport — once the busiest north of Boston — to the economic downturn caused by President Thomas Jefferson’s Embargo of 1807.
The walk will proceed down historic High Street to the Wiscasset Common, continue along Main Street, and conclude at the waterfront. Participants should be prepared to walk approximately a half-mile along sidewalks, which include some hills and uneven surfaces. Note: Participants will be responsible for returning to their vehicles on their own.
